Over in the Meadow

This book gives a good introduction to the inhabitants of the meadow ecosystem. Not only are the illustrations darling, but the rhythm of the words and music make it hard not to tap one's toes. The kindergartners that I shared this with enjoyed it and some of them joined me in singing with the CD that came with the book. There are lots of discussion worthy topics in this book, everything from what an ecosystem is to how the different animals that live there each contribute to the environment. There is a small amount of additional information about each animal at the end of the book. The book also has great interactive potential as a call and response read-a-loud or as a creative drama activity starter. Highly recommended.

love this- the story and the rhymes are perfect to read along with a 3 year old. the illustrations are great, and then there's a whole segment describing all the creatures in the book that is very appropriate for children.

Perfect Easter Basket addition!

I like to include Easter and spring themed books in my children's Easter baskets. I already had some Easter books but went looking on Amazon for some additional animal/spring themed books, and stumbled across this one. I am a fan of the work that Jill McDonald has done for Pottery Barn Kids, Land of Nod, etc., so this was an instant "must have". We were NOT disappointed. My daughter LOVES the music that goes along with the book, and the illustrations/designs are vibrant, intricate and so fun for both child and parent. What a great addition to my daughter's library! This book has made me want to get other Jill McDonald books to add to our library, AND to track down other versions of this beautiful rhyme by other authors and illustrators.

IFSTA Essentials 6th Edition

As an instructor I've used and reviewed the other companies out there and I always go back to IFSTA. This book is an excellent choice for those getting into the fire service as well as those in the service looking to brush up. Highly recommend.

Truly covers the "essentials."

This book covers the basics as we teach new personnel in our fire agency. This is the bible we use for fire fighting at the basic functional level. You can delve deeper into some of the topics if desired, but this gives the basic recruit the knowledge and ability/practice to do the job safely and efficiently. Specialize later, but get the basics down first. I always learn something from the classes I teach, and this is the required text for my fire classes.

The strong investments into optical telecommunications in the late 1990s

resulted in a wealth of new research, techniques, component designs, and

understanding of polarization effects in fiber. Polarization Optics in

Telecommunications brings together recent advances in the field to create a

standard, practical reference for component designers and optical fiber

communication engineers. Beginning with a sound foundation in

electromagnetism, the author offers a dissertation of the spin-vector

formalism of polarization and the interaction of light with media.

Applications discussed include optical isolators, optical circulators,

fiber collimators, and a variety of applied waveplate and prism

combinations. Also included in an extended discussion of polarization-mode

dispersion (PMD) and polarization-dependent loss (PDL), their

representation, behavior, statistical properties, and measurement. This

book draws extensively from the technical and patent literature and is an

up-to-date reference for researchers and component designers in industry

and academia.

Comprehensive Treatment of Optical Communication

This is a superb study of electrodynamic theory as applied to polarization optics in todays (and tomorrow'a) telecommunication technology. As far as this review knows there is nothing like it available in the field. The book fills a very real need for those in the telecommunications field and for engineers and scientists who want to come up (or return) to speed in modern physical optics.

Polarization optics is being used routinely in communication systems, but there has been a need for workers and graduate students to have an entry (as well as an advanced) treatise on the subject. Damask's comprehensive stand-alone volume satisfies this need profoundly. In fact, due to its clear exposition of the frewquently complex material, the volume would make an outstanding text for a grad course in EE and physics. It is highly recommended.

This one details how to us various German words, much like a dictionary of English synonyms does for English speakers, Thus one finds out, for example, by looking up "stop" when it is appropriate to use "halten," "aufhalten," "anhalten," "halt machen,"stehen bleiben," "aufhoeren," innerhalten" etc.. This is all information that it is difficult to obtain from the very short examples, if any, in most English-German dictionaries.
