How to get the most from NiCds and Lead-Acid batteries

Rechargeable batteries are everywhere these days - in cell phones, emergency lighting and consumer electronics like cordless tools, etc. Many folks just buy these things without giving the batteries a second thought. Although that in itself is a testimony to the well-developed technology in today's batteries, there is always more to know. For those who want to get the most from their rechargeables - more charge cycles, longer discharge times and longest service life, reading this book is a must. Although it would have been nice to get detailed info on the latest technology such as lithium-ion and nickel metal hydride, the most commonly used batteries are still NiCds and lead-acid.

This is something of a classic, but in the rapidly changing world of rechargeable batteries, that makes this book quite dated. The book deals extensively with the topic of Nickel Cadmium batteries, with a significant treatment also on Sealed Lead Acid Batteries. You won't find any useful information on Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium-Ion batteries here. There are plenty of graphs providing good information, but organization of the material is muddled and confused. You will get much more information from "Handbook of Batteries", twice the price, but more than twice as useful.

Look elsewhere for a book about Peyton Manning

This book fails. It reads like a poorly written high school English assignment. There seems to have been little to no proof reading (grammatical errors) or fact checking (e.g. Ryan Leaf played his college football at Miami??). Furthermore, the book doesn't appear to contain a single interview and draws highly questionable conclusions from what can loosely be construed as facts. You're better off reading about Peyton Manning on Wikipedia.

It was, however, ideally made for someone looking for a general description of Peyton Manning and someone who is looking for a great success story to look up to. It would not be the number one source for a large factual resource for someone looking for information on Peyton Manning, ​though.

Look to this book for its inspiration, not professional writing skills. Although there were many editorial/grammatical mistakes, this book is not for the advanced reader— more for the novice looking to get some inspiration. The author, Clayton Geoffreys, is a master of inspiration and uses sports stars in his books to get readers “pumped up” and to achieve a positive outlook on life and his/her own ability.

This book specifically does convey a lot of the important accolades achieved by Peyton Manning as well as his struggles. The layout was well planned out and the facts were accurate. One of the best boatbuilidng books with some great advice for open boat cruising.

It is a complete shame this book is out-of-print as it is one of the best books in my whole collection on boat building from selecting the right boat, building it, to cruising it on the water. The first several chapters go over Welsford's innovative building style allowing you to build strong but beautiful boats. He even has a chapter on aesthetics, something that is sorely lacking on the water these days. Then he goes into describing his different boat plans and with each boat he provides amusing and informative stories.

A must have for academic or high volume clinical practices

I was skeptical at first, having read the contents on line. Firstly, I already used IOUS to guide liver cases and thought I knew things. Secondly, I am used to the high price of Springer monographs driven by esoteric topics and a bit too cutting edge content...but this book deserves a careful read. Even the most obvious lessons are discussed in a way that helps organize your experiences and makes connections to practical pearls and outstanding insights that cannot be independently discovered by those who only do a limited amount in this field. The atlas chapter is quite remarkable and the quality and sheer number of images is startling, more than a usual text and far more than I've come to expect from Springer monographs. The content will instantly up your game in the use of IOUS for live issues. If you have an interest in the liver from a radiology, surgery, hepatology, oncology, or even transplant perspective, get this book for your department library...it is well worth it.

About the Author

Paul S. Wang is a professor of computer science and a director of research in the Institute for Computational Mathematics at Kent State University. In 2001, he received the Ohio Governor’s Award for University Faculty Entrepreneurship. A leading expert in symbolic and algebraic computation (SAC), Dr. Wang has conducted over forty research projects funded by government and industry. His main research interests include polynomial algorithms, parallel and distributed SAC, Internet-accessible mathematical computation, and enabling technologies for web-based mathematics education. He earned his Ph.D. from MIT.

a concise version of Harley Hahn's Guide to Unix and Linux (if mistakes corrected)

It's a very good introduction, similar in style to the great Harley Hahn's Guide to Unix and Linux
[...], but much shorter, and not as charming.
The information density is high.
It would be of 5 stars value if not the extreme (even for a computer science book) number of mistakes.
On the other hand, trying to figure out how to correct the numerous mistakes in the presented shell commands
has an educative function too. Who knows, maybe even a better one than presenting the correct commands,
as it really forces the reader to start using man and help!

Very useful intro to Linux

I am a faculty member at RIT and teach courses in system administration. I am always on the lookout for texts that go beyond the usual Linux bible type topics to discuss in a very concise fashion the many sides of Linux and its use. I greatly enjoy Prof. Wang's style of writing and the fact that this text goes beyond the regular topics to give students an introduction to Linux as both an operating system and a development platform. The thing that I particularly enjoy is that rather than try to cover every detail of every topic he covers (an impossible task given the changing nature of the technology) this text introduces students to many topics, gets them up and running and then lets them figure things out on their own. As an example of this his chapter on writing shell scripts does not pretend to be the last word on shell scripts (that is for much thicker tomes) but this chapter gives students enough to get started writing shell scripts and points them in the direction of uses for shell scripts and then moves on.

For me, this is the right approach and I intend to use this text in several classes.

Well written with plenty of examples. This book serves two purposes it explains the syntax and use of Linux commands, and it acts as a very useful reference to keep at your elbow.

Just got this and have already read a few chapters. Really clinically useful, gives best evidence behind our practices. Great supplement to Creasy. In some respects, I like it more than Creasy. Great for residents and fellows.
